The Edge report launch in London
- Created on Wednesday, 28 November 2012
The event took place at St Ethelburga's and was a colourful fun-filled affair, with Somali singing and traditional dance and a spread of home-made Bengali food, kindly served by the women who cooked the food.
We began by gathering in the peaceful bedouin tent to launch the report and to share a little bit about ourselves. For those who had never been to St Ethelburga's it provided a wonderful historical experience and backdrop to proceedings. The atmosphere was delightful with Siriol sharing her thoughts before introducing the short amateur film she had produced on her mobile phone. The film captured the voices of women who had attended the Northampton launch. They expressed their desire for another residential and the need for more inter faith women's gatherings.
Wahida led on the “I wish” exercise, asking women to write a wish they have, then read some of the wishes to everyone.
A stall was set on the day about the NHS Health Check programme and Ann from the NHS informed everyone about the importance of health checks and where to get further information from.
Women also enjoyed getting intricate designs of henna on their hands throughout the programme and were each given a copy of The Edge report and a rose, symbolising friendship and hope.
All in all it was a fantastic event where attendees had an opportunity to meet other women and share their incredible stories and experiences.
