Interfaith learning in Christian and Muslim higher education colleges

Our meeting today dealt with research conducted by Professors Kristin Aune and Sariya Cheruvalil-Contractor on new insights into an area of the higher education sector that is often neglected when it comes to treatment of the role of education in fostering mutual respect between faiths, worldviews, and social cohesion.

Christian and Muslim higher education institutions have received much less attention despite the wider debate in society about fostering cohesion. The research we heard about today is a major contribution to addressing a gap in knowledge and crucially, enabling us to understand how future leadership in Christian and Muslim communities are being supported and trained to rise to the challenge of a growing secular and religiously plural landscape in the UK.
